John and Mary were reportedly married in Chatham county, NC, in 1781. John was evidently not a Quaker, so on 1 January 1785 Mary (Brown) Noblet was disowned by Cane Creek Monthly Meeting of Friends for marrying out of unity. The couple moved to western North Carolina in 1789, where they were among the first settlers. The following children are reported for them:

William, b. abt 1786
Moses Abraham, b. abt 1786
Nancy, b. 1786, d. 31 Dec 1884.
Thomas, b. abt 1792, d. abt 1828
Ira John, b. abt 1794, d. abt 1870
Joseph, b. 3 May 1794, d. 28 March 1870
Sarah, b. abt 1796
Jehu, b. 1798, d. bef 1860

They both died in or before 1850, in what is now McDowell county, NC, but was then part of Burke county, NC. They were reportedly buried in the Noblitt Graveyard in that county, but at that time uninscribed fieldstones were being used to mark graves. Some of their descendants erected a new tombstone for John in 1950.
