Age 84 years, 4 months, 18 days.

Daughter of Rev. Aaron and Lucretia Bancroft.

2 June 1845 in Worcester, MA, she married Welcome Farnum, a widower, b. about 1797.

From the "New York Tribune," (New York, NY), 11 Oct 1887:
Death of an Old Lady on Shipboard.
Mrs. Lucretia Bancroft Farnum, age eighty, a saloon passenger on the steamship Eider, from Bremen yesterday, died on board on October 8.
Mrs. Farnum was a sister of George Bancroft, the historian, and aunt (sic) of Rear-Admiral Gherardi, of the United States Navy.
She has been living for the last seventeen years at Berlin with her niece, Mrs. George H. Davis, daughter of Admiral Gherardi, and sister-in-law of George Bancroft Davis.
Her body was taken in charge of Admiral Gherardi on the arrival of the steamer, and carried to his home at the navy Yard.

(Note: a family member has commented about the inaccuracy in the obituary saying,
"Mrs. George Henry Davis, Lucretia's niece, was born Clara Jane Gherardi, daughter of Lucretia's sister, Jane Putnam Bancroft and Donato Gherardi.
Clara Jane was the sister of Rear Admiral Bancroft Gherardi, not his daughter. Also, I suspect that Clara Jane's brother-in-law is John Chandler Bancroft Davis, not George Bancroft Davis.")
