Note: Find A Grave member KarenK said Birdie's first name was Bertha and her maiden name was Minder - as shown in the District of Columbia, Select Marriages 1830-1921, FHL # 2108515. It lists her as Bertha Minder marrying Russel E. Violett on 02 Mar 1912. In the obit for Eppa in the Washington Post on March 11, 1943, it stated that he was married to Bertha.

But her own obit (Washington Post, Nov 27, 1962) she was named as Birdie and no other 1st name was mentioned. Women were allowed to choose any name they wanted to use then - legally.

She was survived by 37 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of Dorothy Profitt, Lois Mangum, Lillian Sandy, Margaret Bailey, Eileen Nasella, Marylou Inman, and brothers Ernest, Russell, Edward, and Frank Violett. She was the sister of Ellenora Walker, Violet Catterton, Albert, Jacob, and Ralph Minder. She was the sister-in-law of Pearl Lipscomb.

Bu 2005 when one of her daughters passed, the name Bertha was used again to reference Birdie in that obit.
