She was survived by 37 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of Dorothy Profitt, Lois Mangum, Lillian Sandy, Margaret Bailey, Eileen Nasella, Marylou Inman, and brothers Ernest, Russell, Edward, and Frank Violett. She was the sister of Ellenora Walker, Violet Catterton, Albert, Jacob, and Ralph Minder. She was the sister-in-law of Pearl Lipscomb.
Bu 2005 when one of her daughters passed, the name Bertha was used again to reference Birdie in that obit.
