"Mrs. Jewell Brogdon Pirkle, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother passed from this life Aug. 5, 2009. She was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Buford.
"She was a member of Buford First United Methodist Church since 1926, a member of the Willing Workers adult Sunday school class and a member of Buford United Methodist Women (Carrie Stringer Circle).
"She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Pirkle Jr.; young son, Donald Pirkle; parents, Myrtle and Hardy T. (Jack) Brogdon; godmother, Ozella Puckett; granddaughter, Ginger Pirkle; sisters, Burl Bridges, Bobbie Brogdon, Jimmie Kelley, Dorothy Hosch; and brother, Hardy T. Brogdon Jr.
"She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Pat Pirkle; granddaughters and husbands, Deborah Pirkle and Robert Clark, Beth and Wayne Samples; grandson and wife, Jeff and Toni Pirkle; sister, Montie Thompson sister-in-law, Judy Pirkle; great-grandchildren, Hollie Bryson, Juli Adamson, Heather Landers, Torrie Souther; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
"Funeral services [were] held on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Buford First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gerry M. Davis officiating. Interment follow[ed] in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Buford.
"In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, GA 30096 or to her beloved church, Buford First United Methodist Church.... Junior E. Flanigan of Flanigan Funeral Home and Crematory in Buford [was] in charge of arrangements."
