A. Leon Sowers, 83, of Ranson, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson.
Born June 11, 1924, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Charles B. Sowers and Clara (Huff) Sowers.
Mr. Sowers retired from the Halltown Paper Board. Prior, he had farmed in Jefferson County.
He was of the Episcopal faith.
He is survived by his son, Donald L. Sowers of Ranson; three grandchildren, Donald L. Sowers Jr., David A. Sowers and Lori J. Sowers; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy E. Sowers, who died Dec. 25, 2006; one son, Gary L. Sowers; seven sisters; and five brothers.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Melanie McCarley officiating.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Melvin T. Colonial Funeral Home.
