Thomas Cherry Wallace was born in Oakdale, Pennsylvania in 1917. He was the son of John Edward Wallace and Adelaide Elizabeth Keenan Wallace. After graduating from the University of Southern California he moved to Pasadena and worked as a bank clerk. He joined the Air Force in 1940 and was part of the Royal Air Force's American Eagle Squadron. He became a war hero when he shot down a Nazi plane in 1941.

In January of 1943 he married actress Carole Landis. They were divorced in July of 1945. Tommy was the basis for the character of "Ted Warren" in the film Four Jills In A Jeep. On March 28, 1946 he married JoAnne Dohery. The couple had two sons. He served in the Air Force during the Korean war and later worked for Goodyear as a test pilot. In 1963 he joined General Tire and moved to Venezuela. Tommy died in Caracas, Venezuela on November 16, 1968. He was 51 years old.
