ABOUT Garrett Washington Fountain:

"Born in New York and rushed to the California gold rush in 1849-1850. Was born in New York, September 1818, died in Sacramento County, CA on March 22, 1906. His wife Adeline Warner, also from New York, born December 1831 and died in Santa Cruz County, 1903. Garrett worked the Illinois Canyon/Georgetown 1850, Manhattan Canyon, Grass Valley and ran a pack mule in 1855-56 between Volcanoville and Grass Valley. In 1860 he had a hotel at Georgetown cutoff and Carson Road. He ran "Fountain Place", 5 miles NE of Meyers (an offshoot of the Placerville/Carson Road to South Stateline and at the headwaters of Trout Creek) and 160 acre cattle ranch. A son owned it (David Brodrick Fountain) from 1892 to 1905. After that owned by Tuck Holdridge. Children: Werner, David, Lottie, Adelle (Ada)."
