Edsell was born to Thomas Edward and Armilda Lowe Cyrus. Siblings were Lemmie Lowell, Lucille, Charles Wallace and Ivalee Faye Cyrus Earls. Edsell served in the United States Marine Corps. After being discharged, Edsell returned to Huntington and married his sweetheart Shelby Jean Houchin, December 6, 1964, Westmoreland Methodist Church, in Wayne County, West Virginia. Two sons were born to this union: Troy Lance and Gregory Todd. Edsell was a Huntington Police Officer and later employed by Armco (AKA) Steel in Ashland, Kentucky, where he remained until his retirement. Edsell was a boxer and pursued his passion as both an amateur and professional boxing coach. He served as the coach for the VFW Post No. 1064 team and was chosen to be the first permanent state coach for the WV team participating at the National Golden Gloves. Edsell had a great personality, was always willing to help others, was a family life long friend of more than 55 years.
