George's father was Greenberry Bright and his mother was Elizabeth Hollyfield Crisp (also seen as Mary E. Crisp) Bright (daughter of Mansell Crisp and Margaret Rodgers)(b. 1806 in either KY or SC, d. 1883 in Lincoln County, KY). His father, who had a tannery in Tennessee, returned to Kentucky after devastation of his business during the Civil War; in Kentucky he was in farming and in the livestock raising business, was very successful and left George and the Farmers Bank & Trust Co. to be his executors. George married Nancy Chenault Harris (1847-1910, daughter of James A. Harris and Susan Ann Taylor) 8 Dec 1870 in Lincoln County. They were the parents of Annie Evans Bright (1879-1940) (m Joseph Evans Johnson), Susan D. Bright (b 1875)(m Churchill H. Yeager), Bettie H. Bright (1877-1882) and Greenberry Bright. George, a farmer, served in the Army of the Confederacy in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry, Company E.
