Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, John Nielsen Gillies, 82, died June 30, 2000 following a long illness.
Born Feb. 24, 1918 in Vineyard, UT to Hyrum and Isabella Nielsen Gillies. Married Rose Sarah Bess, she preceded him in death in 1975. Married Shirley Read. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, World War II veteran, and a mem-ber of American Legion Post 0008, also belonged to Operating Engineers Local #3.
Survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Jeraldine (Dick) Beeler, Riverton; Jim Gillies, Midvale; Tom Barron, Michelle (Rich) Vuksinick, both West Jordan; Tina (Tom) Diamond, North Carolina; Toni Rush, Salt Lake; John Jr. (Nancy) Gillies, Jeanine Alldredge, both West Valley; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and fathers and mothers-in-law, who are all very special and loved him.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring personnel of Garden Terrace for all their loving care and support.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 So. 2200 West, Riverton, where friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to services, Thursday. Interment, Murray Cemetery.
