Pioneer Woman of City Succumbs to Infirmities of Age-Will Be Buried in Kentucky.
After a few days’ illness Mrs. Elizabeth Cockrill died early yesterday morning at the family residence at the advanced age of 86 years. Mrs. Cockrill was one of the pioneer residents of Great Falls having removed to this city from Kentucky in 1880. She was born in Columbia, Boone county, Missouri, in 1827 [sic], and was married to Travis Cockrill, who became one of the most prominent lawyers of southern Kentucky and whose death occurred October 26, 1868. Twenty-one years later Mrs. Cockrill, accompanied by her children of whom she was the mother of eight, came to Montana and had since made her home in this city with her son, Attorney William M. Cockrill.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters, W. M. Cockrill, Misses Julia and Frances Cockrill, of this city, Dr. R. B. Cockrill, of Fresno, Cal.; Travis L. Cockrill, of Hansford, Cal., and Mrs. George T. Duff, of Glasgow, Ky. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Fannie Adams and Miss Amanda Maupin, of Fresno, Cal., and Judge R. L. Maupin, of West Point, Miss.
Dr. R. M. Leslie and Mrs. Gowan Ferguson, of this city, Mrs. Waller Shobe, of Twin Bridges, and Mrs. Isabelle Miller, formerly Mrs. R. P. R. Gordon, were nephew and nieces of deceased.
Mrs. Cockrill was an active and conscientious worker in the Baptist church which denomination she joined when 15 years of age. She continued her church work in Great Falls as long as her health and strength permitted her so to do and she was generally respected and loved by all who were favored by her acquaintance.
Funeral services will be conducted this evening at 8 at the family residence, 1214 Fourth avenue north, by Rev. Willis T. Pettibone, pastor of the First Baptist church, after which the body will be removed to the Great Northern station for shipment east. The bearers will be J. B. Leslie, C. H. Benton, H. S.
