Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mount Etna Cemetery in Akin. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Manis was born on Oct. 23, 1915, in Posey County, Ind., the daughter of Ova and Katie Mae (Smith) Strickland.
She married Carl Manis on June 29, 1933, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2000.
She retired from Allen Industries in Herrin, where she had worked as an assembler. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Benton and was a former 4-H leader in Waverly.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary and Sharon Manis of Thompsonville, Don and Delores Manis of Thompsonville, and Dean Manis of Marion; three grandchildren, Felicia Parks of Fort Myers, Fla., Gary Manis Jr. of Enola, Pa., and Becky Chapman of Thompsonville; three great-grandchildren, Alexandria Manis of Enola and Brittany and Shane Chapman of Thompsonville; one sister, Golda Churchwell of New Harmony, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Manis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson, Alan Manis; three brothers, Albert, John William and Virgil Strickland; and four sisters, Zula Mae Robinson, Loretta Johnson, Dora Vaughn, and Virginia Barns.
