Frances was a homemaker with plenty of practice, since she was the oldest daughter of her mother's thirteen children. She was a talented seamstress whose ability to look at a dress worn by a passerby on the street then go home and copy it kept her four daughters fashionably dressed through the Depression. When Andrew's job site was too far away to allow him to return home at night, she'd leave the children at home with the housekeeper and travel with him.
