NEW PALTZ: Ramon E. Cates, 67, of New Paltz and formerly of Bridgeport, Conn., died Monday, July 12, 1999 at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston. Mr. Cates was a retired supervisor and district manager of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, for AT&T Lucent, out of Kingston. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, New Paltz, where he was a eucharistic minister and active member of the parish, also, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5800, New Paltz; VFW Brennan Bandenberg Post #864, New Paltz; New Paltz/Gardiner Senior citizens; and AARP. Mr. Cates served during the Korean War. He was born in Troy, MD, on Jan. 1, 1932, the son of the late Herman and Edna Petersen Cates. He married Marianna Sansonetti. Mrs. Cates died June 21, 1995. Survivors include two daughters, Marie Elena Roland of Virginia Beach, Va., and Susan Cates of New Paltz, two sisters, Florence Moore and Carolyn Conner of Maine; a dear friend, Lydia Camallonga of Kingston; two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Mark Cates. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Awareness Coalition, P.O. Box 533, New Paltz, NY; or St. Joseph's Church, New Paltz, NY.
