Of Brief Illness
Ira W. Brock, 76, died Saturday, December 17, at 11:30 a.m. at the Homer Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born on September 18, 1884, at Winnfield. Mr. Brock had lived here for 42 years. He was a barber by trade and was a member of the First Methodist Church. He was a member of the Barber's Union of which he was secretary.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 18, at 3 p.m. at the First Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. W.P. Fraser, Rev. George M. Hall, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and Rev. Jack Bennett, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment was in the Arlington cemetery under the direction of the First National Funeral Home.
Survivors were his wife, Mrs. I.W. Brock, of Homer; eight sons, Hoyd E. Brock, Herschel Brock, Harold Brock and Hamric Brock, all of Houston, Texas; George Trussell of Jena, John C. Trussell, Shreveport, A.W. Trussell of Munich, Germany, D.R. "Doc" Trussell of San Diego, California; two daughters, Mrs. Melton Faulk of Athens and Mrs. O. Elton Stokes of Shreveport.
Also surviving are five brothers, Houston Brock of Marthaville, J.E. Brock, of Homer, Oscar Brock, Robert Brock and Curtis Brock, all of Houma; two sisters, Mrs. Gertie Weaver of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Aber La Grone of Gilmer, Texas, 34 grandchildren and one great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were Hoyd Brock, Herschel Brock, Harold Brock, Hamric Brock, T.R. Trussell and J.C. Trussell.
Honorary pallbearers were the Men's Bible Class of the First Methodist Church, John Reynolds and Fred Jackson.
