ANOTHER PIONEER PASSES ON
Fillmore is fast losing a number of her old folks whose deaths have been occurring with seeming regularity for some time past. This time it is Mr. Orson Holbrook who has passed to the Great Beyond. Born in Hancock County, Illinois, November 2nd, 1841, and at the age of 8 he made the trip from Nauvoo across the plains in the oxen and handcart brigades, coming to Salt Lake City and later to Fillmore where he has since resided. On January 9, 1862, he married Miss Mary V. Ray, who has preceded him to her final resting place. To this union 7 children were born, three of whom are also dead. The living children are Mrs. A.N. Hanson of Salt Lake, Miss Nellie Holbrook, O.H. Holbrook and Franklin Holbrook all of Fillmore. The funeral took place on Sunday from the LDS Chapel of which Mr. Holbrook had been a devout member all his life. The speakers were James A. Kelly, J.D. Smith and Alonzo Robison all of whom told of the sterling qualities possessed by the deceased. Special music including a solo by Mrs. Stella Day was rendered after which interment took place in the City Cemetery, many friends following the remains to their last resting place. The grave was dedicated by Mr. Thomas Callister. So ends a useful life and we can only say that he died as he had lived, a true believer in the Gospel and that he has attained on High a seat beside the spotless white throne of Him who noteth even a sparrow's fall.
