East Peoria, IL - Dr. George K. Dickerson, age 84, of East Peoria passed away at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007, at his residence.

He was born in 1922 in Lang, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Edward Elder and Lena F. Gieg Dickerson. Dr. Dickerson married Ellen A. Judge on May 3, 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Georgetown, Iowa. She survives.

He graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic in 1951, where he had interned with Dr. B.J. Palmer in his clinic. He practiced briefly in Wenona, Ill., before moving to East Peoria in 1953, where he practiced until his retirement in 1999.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army 527th Engineers. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart. Dr. Dickerson kept in touch with his Army buddies at annual reunions. The 50th and final reunion was in 2000.

Dr. Dickerson was a past commander of American Legion Post 983 in East Peoria and currently a member of American Legion Post 1234 in Creve Coeur.

He was a member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur and worked with the Catholic Diocese of Peoria Marriage Encounter Group.

Dr. Dickerson took great pleasure in refinishing and restoring furniture, feeling that he gave it new life and service.

He took pride in and was grateful for his family, his community and his profession. One of the high points of his life was that his three sons chose to follow in his professional footsteps.

Dr. Dickerson had worked as an election judge for Groveland #12 election commission and was a member of the East Peoria Chamber of Commerce, the East Peoria Beautification Committee, Holiday Sensations (East Peoria Festival of Lights), the East Peoria Rotary Club and Illinois Prairie State Chiropractic Association.

He is survived by his children, Nancy (Jim) Carr of East Peoria, Christine Conway of Peoria, Kathleen (Pat) Daly of Louisville, Ky., Mary Anne (Rick) Morrow of East Peoria, Dr. Tom (Donna) Dickerson of East Peoria, Dr. Paul (Cassie) Dickerson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dr. John (Neca) Dickerson of Mesa, Ariz., and Erin (Pete) Kephart of Bollingbrook, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brothers, Lewis J. (Helen) Dickerson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Robert E. (Veletta) Dickerson of Agency, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Dickerson was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Timothy John Dickerson ; and an infant granddaughter, Melanie Conway.

Cremation will be accorded. Interment of remains will take place at a later date.
