Born Dec. 8, 1901, Mr. Wolff died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at his home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Chicago.
He was a life member of St. Mary's Church of West Chicago, where he ushered for 69 years, and was a trustee of the church for 25 years. A former parish council member, he was also a member of Father Gaffney Council 1555 of Knights of Columbus since 1920. Mr. Wolff owned George P. Wolff Builders in West Chicago for more than 50 years and was on the zoning boards for the city of West Chicago and DuPage County for 29 years. A life member of Abbey Marmion Society of Aurora and a volunteer fireman for West Chicago from 1940 to 1960, Mr. Wolff also was a Boy Scout leader in West Chicago and received the Silver Bearer [sic, recte Beaver] and St. George awards in Scouting. Mr. and Mrs. Wolff celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 25, 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Wheaton; daughter, Marie Wolff of Milwaukee, Wis.; four sons, Thomas (Lee) Wolff of Minneapolis, George (Louise) Wolff of Elgin, James (Mary Ann) Wolff of Naperville, and John (Shirley) Wolff of Wheaton; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Weiland of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, at the Norris-Walen Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington/Geneva Road), West Chicago.
