"Prominent Woman Dies at the Age of 84
Mrs. Mary I. Dent Passes Away at Home of Granddaughter
"Mrs. Mary Isabella Dent, widow of the late George W. Dent, who was a brother of Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant, died early Thursday morning at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. W. H. T. Huie. 2670 Green street, at: the age of 84. Mrs. Dent was a daughter of Judge Henry Shurlds of Missouri. Mrs. Dent leaves a daughter Mrs. J. C. Reis and grandchildren, Mrs. Benjamin Selby, Mrs. W. T. Huie, Miss Maud M. Dent, W. S. Dent, a United States custom officer at this port, and Captain George S. Dent, master mariner. Mrs. J. C. Reis and the last three named grandchildren are all that remain of this branch of the Dent family. Mrs. Dent was married in 1840 and with her husband came to California with General Grant, in 1852. The family first settled in Knights Ferry and later came to San Francisco. The funeral will take place from 2670 Green street today."
