James Alfred Bagley was the son of John Curtis Bagley and America Jane Bivens Bagley. In 1902, he married Grace Elliott at Brookside, Alabama. James graduated from Howard College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1899 and from the University of Alabama with a Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1903. He was a doctor with offices at 1002 North 45th St. in Birmingham.
