He was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Brooklyn, Wis., the son of the late R. Parke and Burnice Ames. Richard married Vera Clark June 18, 1938, in Madison. She preceded him in death Jan. 29, 1983. On Sept. 7, 1985, Richard married Genevieve Kittoe in Oshkosh. Mr. Ames was a member of the Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church.
He graduated from Madison West High School, and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture, in 1940. Richard was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and Alpha Zeta, an honorary fraternity. He was a former member of the Elks Club and past president of Independent Dairies of Wisconsin. He came to Oshkosh in 1943 as dairy inspector, joined the Guernsey Dairy Co. as vice-president in 1948 and retired as president in 1978.
Richard is survived by his wife, Genevieve of Oshkosh; two daughters, Joan (John) Mitchell of Hillsboro and Carol (Larry) Spanbauer of Oshkosh; two sons, Ronald (Susan) of Oshkosh and Robert of Hollywood, Calif.; one sister, Elaine Miller of Burke, Va.; two brothers, Paul (Bonita) of Jacksonville, Ill., and James (Gladys) of Oshkosh; seven grandchildren, (names omitted by contributor) and one great-grandchild, (name omitted by contributor). A sister, Mary Morris, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church, the Rev. Elmer Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels-Eagle Street and from 10:30 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the church. A memorial will be established.
