Gladys was born March 14, 1918, a daughter of Rex- AMES ford and Pearl (Hoha) McNutt. Gladys met James Ames at Algoma Blvd United Methodist Church at a church function in 1936. They were married May 29, 1941 in Oshkosh.
Gladys graduated from Hortonville High School; she attended Oshkosh Teachers College, and taught for 28 years, teaching Kindergarten and second grade at Merrill School and Kindergarten at Washington School, until she retired in 1980. Jim retired in 1982 and they lived in Bradenton, FL. for many years until returning to Oshkosh.
She was a member of Algoma Blvd United Methodist Church, retired teachers association, United Methodist Women, and Priscilla Circle. Gladys loved playing her piano, letter writing, traveling with Jim, especially overseas.
She is survived by her husband Jim of Oshkosh, two sons, Dr. Richard (Pam) Ames of Oshkosh, and Jon Ames of Springfield, MO; three sisters, Vera Johnson of Poy Sippi, Alice (Rev. Ralph) Walters of La Porte, IN, Dorothy Schmidt of New London, four grand children, Christopher (Christine) Ames of Bolivar, MO, Carrie Ames of St. Louis, MO, Cara (Jordon) Bricco of Madison, and Ryan (Barbara) Ames of Chicago, IL; two great-grand children, (names omitted by contributor) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Edward Johnson.
Funeral service for Gladys will be held on Wednesday November 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Algoma Blvd United Methodist Church (1174 Algoma Blvd) with Rev. Barry Yarbro officiating. Family and friends may call on Tuesday evening at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside from 3 to 6 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
