Revolutionary War militia officer. He was the brother of Col. Ebenezer Francis, fallen hero of the Battle of Hubbardton in Vermont, and was with his brother when he was mortally wounded. He was wounded at Saratoga, and participated in numerous other actions during the Revolution. He was 69 when he died.
