WELL KNOWN CARPENTER OF THIS CITY DIED AT 7:30 THIS MORNING AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS

David Whitcomb Fesler, known to nearly every one in Martinsville as "Whit" Fesler, died at 7:30 this morning at his home on East Jackson street after an illness of nearly one year with cancer of the stomach. He had been confined to his bed for the past six or seven weeks. He suffered very much during these weeks, but bore his sufferings with great fortitude and without murmur of complaint. He was conscious all of the time during his illness except for a short time Monday, and was conscious this morning up to the time of his death when he passed away very quietly.

Mr. Fesler was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fesler, deceased, and was born in Morgantown on April 14, 1849. He resided in Morgantown until twenty-seven years ago when he and his family came to Martinsville and made their home here since then. He was a fine carpenter and followed that occupation throughout his life time.

He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Parthena Groves, to whom he was married in May, 1868. She died in 1901 and on November 19, 1905, he was married to Mrs. Minnie Hathaway. He is survived by his second wife and their three children — Harold, Grace and William, and by five children by his first wife, three daughters, Mrs. H. E. Rutledge, and Mrs. Lottie Kelleher this city, and Mrs. Elmer Crouch, of Indianapolis, and two sons, Thomas Fesler, of Indianapolis, and Ora Fesler, of this city, and a step-son, Clinton Hathaway, and nine grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are his brother, Joseph Fesler, of Morgantown, and his sister, Mrs. Martha Reisner, of Indianapolis; his step-mother, Mrs. Mary Fesler, of Morgantown; his half sisters, Mrs. Joe Enos, Mrs. S. J. Anderson and Miss Maud Fesler, of Morgantown, and two half-brothers, Oliver Fesler, of Morgantown, and Ira Fesler of Chicago.

Mr. Fesler was of a genial, kindly disposition. He made friends of everyone and those who knew him intimately always had a good word for him. He had no enemies.

He was a member of the M. E. church of this city.

The funeral services will be held at the home at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon and will be conducted by Dr. V. W. Tevis, pastor of the M. E. church. Immediately after the services the relatives and friends will leave here with the body for Morgantown where the burial will take place.
