Junior was born November 8, 1921 in Halifax County to John Wesley Morningstar, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Tuck.

A life-long farmer, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie R. Morningstar, a son, John Wesley Morningstar, III; and three sisters and two brothers.
