Esther was born in Lobo Twp.,, Middlesex Co., near London, Ontario, daughter of David and Caroline (Nichols) Stonehouse. She was married on 5 November 1867 at Ingersoll in Oxford Co., Ontario, to Walter John Berry. Esther and Walter were living in Ingersoll, South Oxford, Ontario, in 1871 with two-year-old son George. After Esther died, Walter married Margaret Ellen Mann and had children: Arabella Berry, Lottie Mary Ethel Berry, Walter Larkworthy Berry, and Clare Myrtle Berry.
