SERVICES WILL BE HELD TODAY FOR C. A. WARD

Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) for Charles Alfred Ward, 76, Spearfish resident who died Saturday night. Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church with the Reverend W. C. Deer officiating. Burial will be in the Spearfish cemetery under the direction of McColley Funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Elmer Edwards, George Holben, James Steen, Charles Ice, Leo Cummings and August Schmidt.

Ward is survived by his wife, Margaret, four children, Thomas Ward at Casper, Wyoming, Howard Ward and Alfred Ward of Newcastle, Wyoming, Mrs. B. M. Holmes of Sacramento, California, and four grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. D. C. Swinford of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. W. V. Meeker of Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Willis Kent, Van Nuys, California, and two brothers, Tom Ward of Yankton, South Dakota, and Jack Ward of Douglas, Wyoming, also survive.

Ward was born June 7, 1875 near Denver, Colorado. In the spring of 1876 the family moved to the Black Hills and Ward spent his youth in Black Hawk. His early manhood was spent working in the timber and as a cowpuncher. Late he was a lumber dealer in Sturgis and in Newcastle, Wyoming. Since retiring he has made his home in Spearfish. During the past 40 years Ward has owned and operated the Tower ranch near Sundance, Wyoming.

Ward joined the Masonic Order in Rapid City in 1903. Taken from the “Queen City Mail,” dated Thursday, December 6, 1951.
