HARWICH - Frederick C. Maddux, 70, of Jupiter, Fla., a longtime summer resident of Harwich, died Wednesday of heart failure at University Hospital in Boston.
He was the husband of Jane A. (Burgan) Maddux.
Mr. Maddux worked for 28 years as a principal accountant for the state of New York Department of Social Services. He retired in 1985.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater as a member of the Army Special Forces. He was a member and past master of Greenbush Schodack Masonic Lodge No. 87 in East Greenbush, NY. He was also an adviser for the youth group at St. David's Episcopal Church in East Greenbush.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Gale Ann Cottrell (Thomas) of Orchard Park, NY and Dona Jane Childrose of Niverville, NY; two sisters, Virginia Dietert and Betty Jo Weiselman of Arizona; a brother Henry C. Maddux of Arizona; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Emma Jane Johnson.
A service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Chatham. Burial will follow in St. Christopher's Memorial Garden.
