Martha Grubbs, 86, of Orlando Florida died at home on Friday, May 3, 2013 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born in Heard County, Georgia, on April 23, 1927, the youngest of 10 children. Martha was devoted to her children, her church and her friends. She was nothing short of heroic in raising her family, overcoming challenges with sheer determination and strong will, and earning the everlasting love and respect of her children. She was true to her dear friends and neighbors, who reciprocated in kind when she needed them. Martha loved her church and her church family; they completed her life and she was blessed to be loved by such a generous and caring group. Everyone who knew Martha will remember her mischievous sense of humor. To hear her tell a joke was funnier than the joke itself and to hear her get tickled at herself was priceless. The children and grandchildren will miss her counsel and her company; there was never a situation that didn't get better by talking to Mom. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Murad (Lefty) Grubbs, and sons Jimmy Dye (Orlando) and Mike Martin (Gainesville GA). She is survived by daughter Elaine Lee (Tim) of Richmond, VA, daughter Valerie Keeley (George) of Orlando, son Spurgeon Martin of Orlando, grandchildren Matt Johnson (Shelli) of Williamstown, KY, Laura Stephens (Chris) of Ballground, GA, Brannon, Chris and Jason Martin all of Orlando, and four great grandchildren.Visitation will be at Baldwin Fairchild Conway on Monday, May 6, from 6 to 8 PM. Services will be on Tuesday, May 7, at 10:00 AM, at the United Church of the Nazarene, 1320 S. Chickasaw Trail, Orlando, FL 32825.The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or The United Church of the Nazarene in lieu of flowers.
