Charles E. Schleicher, 83, Sarasota, FL, died Aug. 15, 2002. He was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Allentown, Pa, and came to Sarasota 16 years ago from there. He worked in retail sales for the Beach Nut and Travelers Express Co. He retired as an Army sergeant after serving in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a member of Dallas Masonic Lodge 396 in Easton, Pa, and served as its worshipful master in 1968.

Survivors include sisters Christine Shaputnic of Allentown and Carolyn Emrich of Bethlehem, Pa.; a brother, Kermit of Catasauqua, Pa.; three grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. Services will be Pennsylvania. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2801 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, FL 34237.

Charles E. Schleicher, 83, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Easton, died Aug. 15 in Sarasota. He was the husband of Rose (Alfano) Schleicher, who died in 1995.

He was employed for 25 years by BeechNut, Inc., before retiring and by Traveler's Express. He also operated a beauty salon in Easton with his wife, and performed as a comedian and humorist along the East Coast including Atlantic City and Virginia Beach.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late George H. and Frieda (Ziegler) Schleicher.

A veteran of World War II, he was in the Army Air Corps, 5th Bomber Command, 5th Air Corps, serving in six major campaigns. [Charles enlisted on 18 Oct 1941.]

A member of the Lehigh Consistory, he was a member of Dallas Masonic Lodge 396, Easton, where he was past master. He was a secretary of Grand Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Easton Forest.

He was active in fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Survivors: Brother, Kermit of Catasauqua; sisters, Christine Shaputnic of Allentown, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Dolores Burnett.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton streets, Easton. Call 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday.
