MELVIN H. BECKMAN, 84 VIRGINIA T. BECKMAN, 83 ROCKFORD - Virginia Teresa Beckman, 83, of Rockford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, surrounded by her loving daughters. On May 2, 2013, within forty eight hours of Virginia's passing, her husband of 63 years joined her in heaven. Melvin Henry Beckman, 84, passed away peacefully with his loving daughters at his side. Mel and Ginny were married on February 25, 1950, in Chicago, IL. As much as our hearts ache and our eyes shed tears, we are comforted knowing they are together again. Mel and Ginny are survived by their daughters, Laura (Gary) Gibson, Karin (Matt) Donovan and Mary (Rick) Harnden; grandchildren, Dylan and Kendall Gibson, Ben and Audrey Donovan, Sarah (Mike) Wargaski and Steven (Andrea) Harnden; Ginny's sister, Norma Wells (nee: Schoen). Predeceased by brothers, Richard Schoen, Albert Beckman and Leroy Beckmann. In accordance with our parents' wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A private family service will be held with internment at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established in Mel and Ginny's name honoring their dedication to over 20 foster babies and children whom they loved and cared for in the 1960's. Contributions may be directed to the family or the Children's Home and Aid Society of Illinois, 910 2nd Avenue, Rockford, IL 61104, or childrenshomeandaid.org/ donate.
