ELMORE - James D. "Jim" Smith, 80, formerly of Vickery and Woodville, died Friday at Elmore Retirement Village. He had lived in Elmore for three years.

Born in North Monroeville, Ohio, he was the son of William John and Emma (Tilley) Smith. He married the former Eva (Opelt) Smith. She died on June 25, 1972.

He was a retired caretaker at Oakwood Cemetery, having worked there until 1980. He also worked until 1992 for Woodville Township Cemetery. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Navy on the U.S.S. Midway, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Surviving are sisters Lucinda Doerner of Norwalk and Evelyn Parkhurst of Vickery; and a grandson, Forrest "Anthony" Tucker of Genoa.

He was preceded in death by brothers Paul, Ralph, William, John Jr., Glenn, and a twin brother, who died in infancy; and sisters, Florence Aw, Marguiret Deck, Edith Weasner, Blanche Magers, and two sisters who died in infancy.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
