LEWISTOWN - William H. Deeg Jr., 88, of 117 Highland Ave., Lewistown, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Lewistown Hospital.Born July 5, 1924, in Belleville, he was a son of the late William H. Deeg Sr. and Adaline (Schultz) Deeg.He was preceded in death by: his wife, Helen (Swanger) Deeg, on Dec. 13, 1994; brothers, Toby Deeg and infant brother, David; and sisters, Louise Horning, Ruth Miller and Donna King.William is survived by: his stepdaughter, Miriam Hale and husband, Jack, of Lewistown; sister, Adaline Spickler and husband, Harry, of Belleville; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat- grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-great- grandchildren.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the South Pacific.
He was employed as a production employee at the American Viscose Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 1986.William was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church.He was a life member of the City Hook & Ladder, Fame Fire Company, Junction Fire Company, Brooklyn Hose Company, and East Derry and Yeagertown fire companies. He was also a life member of BPOE No. 663, Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143, Stroup Alexander VFW Post 5939, Belleville, American Legion Post 90, Lewistown, and the Mifflin County Clubmen's Association.His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013, at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., with the Rev. Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, where graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.Memorial contributions in William's memory may be made to Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Highland Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
