Samuel Wilson Black, 77, of Spanish Fork, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 1990, at his home.
He was born June 14, 1912, in Kansas City, Mo., to Sherman Eugene and Rose Anna Smith Black. He married Dora Boyce, June 29, 1932, in Brigham City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple.

He graduated from the University of Oregon as a landscape architect in 1939. He worked for Corning Glass Works in New York, retiring in 1973, and then moved to Spanish Fork, where he has made his home since.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served a mission for six months in the Louisiana Baton Rouge LDS Mission.

He is survived by his wife, Spanish Fork; three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Norman (Dorilee) Higgs, Porterville, Calif.; Mrs. Zera (Vicki) Staheli, Spanish Fork; Julie Bothwell, St. George; Eric Black, Sedona, Ariz.; Robert Mead, Fort Worth Texas; 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Bernell (Julia) Wright, Salem, Ore.; Virginia Schmutte, Crete, Neb.; Sherman Black, LaPine, Ore. He was preceded in death by a son, Laurence Randall Black.

Funeral will be Saturday, 1 p.m. in the Spanish Fork 7th LDS Ward Chapel, 395 E. 400 N., Spanish Fork. There will be no public viewing.

Burial will be in Spanish Fork City Cemetery, under direction of Walker Mortuary, Spanish Fork.
