Daughter of Agnes & Edward McCarthy.
Married to Bernard J. Glaser Sr. on 8-4-1947 at Greeley, NE.
Before marriage, she taught school in Elyria, NE., worked at the Ordnance Plant in Grand Island, NE. and graduated from Grand Island Business School. She then worked in Omaha as a secretary at Kirkendale Boot Factory and at Father Flannigan's Boys Town. After marriage, she taught at Pible Lake School. She and her husband ranched in Wheeler County, where she was a member of the Wheeler County Extension Club. After moving to Greeley, she was Selective Service Clerk for Greeley County and News Editor for the Greeley Citizen, where she wrote the "Kitchen Chatter" weekly column from 1956 to 1982. She was a founding member and served as Vice-President of the Greeley County Historical Society. She was also a Cub Scout den mother, 4-H leader, member of the Women's Auxiliary, Officer of the Greeley Sacred Heart High School Alumni Board, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society. After moving from Greeley, Joan worked for Channel 13 Television in Kearney, attended Kearney State College, and later began Glaser's Ceramics in Ansley. She was elected to the Central Committee of the Nebraska Democratic Party in 1976. After moving to Lincoln in the early 1980s, she graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in English at age 61. She went on to start two more businesses, Glaser Molds, and CDP News, which she published for 25 years. She traveled extensively, visiting every state in the United States as well as Ireland and England. She received numerous awards for her contributions to the ceramic industry. In Lincoln, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
