Attended and graduated from Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina and later attended Union Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He accepted a call to a small church in Maxton, North Carolina where he stayed for 6 years. He then moved to a church in Anderson, South Carolina for 7 years, and lastly returned to Richmond, Virginia where he joined the faculty at Union Seminary for 25 years. He retired in 1971 as Professor of Evangelism & Director of Field Work at Union Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.
