Mrs. Mareather Susan "Penny" Ayers Barr, 60, of Jonesville, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, April 28, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Barr was born June 2, 1952, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late Roby and Mae Willard Ayers. Susan worked at Proctor-Silex Inc. for many years and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cana, VA. She is survived by her husband, Walter William Barr of Mount Airy; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ruth and Rick VanHoy of Jonesville and Gail Hembree of Beulah; five grandchildren, Jake Hembree, Timothy VanHoy, Mark VanHoy, Amber Barr, and Auston Barr; a great-grandchild, Kylah Hembree; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ellen and Rob Barr of Cana, VA, and Janis Honeycutt of Mount Airy; and two brothers, Commodore Ayers of Westfield and Alvin Bowman of Hopewell, VA. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 11:00 AM at New Charity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hank Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at New Charity Baptist Church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
