EX-TEACHER, CIVIC, LDS, FIGURE DIES

ST. GEORGE - Funeral services for Althea Gregerson Hafen, 77, former Washington County school teacher, will be held Monday 2 p.m. in the St. George Third LDs Ward Chapel.

Mrs. Hafen died Wednesday in a St. George rest home after a long illness.

She was born Jan. 16, 1894, at Toquerville, a daughter of Andrew F. and Altheria Sylvester Gregerson. Her father had been a Danish contractor.

She grew up in Pintura, but attended school during the winter months at St. George, where she was graduated from high school. She also attended Brigham Young University, and the Unversity of Utah, where she received her teaching certificate.

She was married to Guy Hafen on Dec. 16, 1917, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mrs. Hafen was active in both civic and church activities in St. George, especially supporting Dixie College from which each of her eight children was graduated.

She is survived by her husband; sons, daughters, Dr. Earl, Salinas, Calif.; Ralph J., Salt Lake attorney; Dr. Norma E., Richard B., both Salt Lake City; Gregerson H., Hagerman, Idaho; Mrs. A.M. (Elaine) Briggs, San Lorenzo, Calif.; Mrs. Jean (Valerie) King, Carlisle, Mass.; Mrs. William (Gloria) Sample, New Paltz, N.Y.; 23 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister Mrs. Lyle Christensen, Salt Lake City.

Friends may call at Spilsbury Mortuary Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday l:l:30 P.m. Burial will be in the St. George Cemetery.
