Census records show he was living in Catoosa Co. Georgia in 1860.

Civil War records indicate he enlisted in the Confederate Army as a Private in Capt. John F. White's Independent Company, East Tennessee Cavalry, August 24, 1861 at Camp Cummings (Knoxville, Tn.). This Company eventually became Co A, 5th Tenn. Cavalry Regt (McKenzie's). He was last recorded present December 31, 1864 where the regiment was located near Hardeeville, S. C. Following the surrender of his regiment at the end of the war, he was paroled at Charlotte, N. C., May 3, 1865. He returned to Catoosa County, Ga. where he resided until his death.
