Connie Marion Athey, Jr., 85, of Middletown, Virginia, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, in the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center in Winchester.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Shenandoah Memorial Park with the Rev. William C. Smith, officiating.

Mr. Athey was born February 9, 1928 in Warren County, Virginia, son of Connie Marion Athey, Sr. and Viola Pearl Fox Athey. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired after 48 years from Southern States as Manager. Mr. Athey was a member of the Giles B. Cook Post 53 of the American Legion and a member of the Front Royal Baptist Temple. He was married to the late Virginia H. Tucker Athey.

Surviving are a daughter, Patsy Parsons of Front Royal; one son, Carl Deavers and wife Carolyn of Front Royal; two sisters, Lelia Mauck of Bentonville and Brenda Lee Smith of Mobile, AL; one brother, Clifford Lynwood Athey of Front Royal; many nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, William Sylvester Athey.

He was, for many years, manager of the Front Royal Southern States Cooperative.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
