EMMA ROBERTSON MATHNEY - RICHMOND
Emma Robertson Matheny, 85, of Richmond, widow of John Clifton MathenYdied Monday April 6, 1998. Mrs. Matheny was a professional genealogist. She and her husband, a native of Highland County, spent many hours in the cemeteries of this area doing research for a resource book, "Vital Records of Highland County, Virginia." published in 1986. The Mathenys also presented to the Highland County Clerks Office a copy of an early map of the county made by surveyor Thomas Campbell. She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Purceli of Orem, Utah and Jean Dennis of Huntsville, Ala ; two sons, Raymond "Buddy" Williams and Ronald Williams, both of Richmond, a sister. Edith Robertson Vicellio of Mechanicsville; three brothers. Clyde Elmo, James Melvin and Charles Henry Robertson, all of Richmond; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren Funeral services were held on April 9 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mechanicsville. Interment was at the Monterey Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family History Library, PO Box 8264, Richmond, Va.
