The body of Pfc. William S. Metzler, who was killed in action June 24, 1944, while fighting with the U.S. Paratroopers in Normandy, France, is to be returned to his home county this afternoon aboard Southern Pacific Passenger Train No. 5, westbound, for reinterment in the Naco, Ariz., cemetery.
The body will be taken from the train to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Metzler of Naco, Ariz.
A rosary service will be held tonight in the Metzler home, and Requiem Mass is set for 7 a.m. Wednesday in the Catholic Church at Naco, with the Rev. Fr. Francisco Ramos officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with L.A. Engle, Jr., Post No. 16, American Legion of Bisbee officiating and providing full military honors.
The Boys' Patrol of the Naco grammar school will march to the graveside for the services.
William S. Metzler was born in Naco, Ariz., and attended primary and grade school there. He had completed nearly two years' work in the Bisbee high school when he volunteered and enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1942. He became a member of Co. E. 506th Parachute, and completed successfully the arduous training of that branch of the service, and was sent overseas.
At the time of his death, he was 22 years old.
Surviving relatives include his parents; six brothers, Tony, Robert, Frank, Julian and James Metzler of Los Angeles, and Alfonso Metzler of Naco, Sonora; and five sisters, Mrs. L.A. Valenzuela, Mrs. Lupe Martinez and Miss Hortencia Metzler of Naco, Ariz. Mrs.Oscar Bernal of Nogales and Mrs. Ernie Pain of Tucson.
