Marie was born in Slaton to Arthur and Edna Wild. She graduated from Slaton High School. She married James Elton Jr. in 1944. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Thompson worked many years as a caregiver for the First Methodist Church of Lubbock.
Her survivors include two sons, James E. Thompson III and his wife, Elizabeth, of Columbia, Mo. and Thomas A. Thompson and his wife, Jimmie, of Austin. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Matthew and Leigh Anne Thompson of Overland Park, Kan., Julie and Scott Deane of Lenexa, Kan., Steven and Scott Thompson, both of Columbia, Mo.; and one great-grandchild, Andrew Bryan Thompson of Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Edna Mae Stone of Dallas; and a niece, Sharron and husband, Jim Bryan, of Dallas.
