W. Maurine Nelson went to be with her Savior at the age of 76 on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, while she was at her home, surrounded by her family and her Lord Jesus Christ. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, in Grape Creek Cemetery with Nancy York officiating. The family will have a visitation after the service at the home, located at 8138 US Hwy. 87 North. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Grape Creek.

Maurine was very committed to her family and her faithful companion, Daisy. Maurine was always active in her family's annual family reunion. She was a very outgoing person that made many friends through her business and running flea market sales on the weekends. Maurine was a very independent woman who was never idle and always had a project going. She enjoyed the outdoors, doing everything from walking Daisy, to yard work and fishing. She loved to play cards and dominoes with her family and friends. Maurine also loved to dance and today she is dancing in heaven.

Maurine was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, C.J. Nelson; her parents, Charles and Ola Mae Welch; and five siblings , two brothers and three sisters: Roy Welch, George (Welch) Brown, Clura Mae Mefford, Lou Randolph and Lynn Killeam. Maurine is survived by her faithful companion, Daisy; daughters Dianne Smith and husband Roy of San Angelo, Kathy Carter and husband Gary of San Angelo, Teresa Hollenbeck and husband Jimbo of Odessa; grandchildren Michelle Fry of San Angelo, Ginger Rodgers of Odessa, Tammy Stout of San Angelo, Randy Carter of San Angelo and Patricia Long of Granbury. Maurine also had 11 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo with a special thank you to Cindy Baca for taking care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of San Angelo in honor of Maurine Nelson.
