Heart Attack Fatal For Former Sp. Fork Mayor

SPANISH FORK - Funeral services for Edward Morgan Beck, 61, 482 N. 1st W., who died Monday at the Hughes Memorial Hospital of a heart attack, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Spanish Fork Third LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Merrill Bingham conducting. Mr. Beck was a former mayor of Spanish Fork.

He was born Nov 5. 1904, in Spanish Fork, the son of Morgan and Annie Rowe Beck. He married Grace Bowen on Aug. 15, 1928. in the Salt Lake Temple. He was educated in Spanish
Fork city schools and was a graduate of Brigham Young University. He was a school teacher at Spanish Fork Junior High School and taught school also in Wyoming. In all, he taught for 37 years and trained 34 student teachers.

Active in the LDS Church, Mr. Beck was in the Third Ward bishopric, worked in all the auxiliaries of the church and was a High Priest at the time of his death. He was a member of the
Utah Farm Bureau and the UEA. His hobby was horses and raised and trained pulling horses, many of which won prizes in state competition.

He served as a city councilman in 1952-53 and as mayor of Spanish Fork from 1954 to 1957. During this time new water, power and lighting were installed in the city. The present golf course site was also purchased. In other civic affairs, he was a member of the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs, worked on Red Cross, Heart and Polio committees.

Survivors include his wife, Spanish Fork; two sisters, Mrs.Merrill (Rowe) Binks, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Dale Evans, Ogden; one nephew, Edward Beck, who lived with him for nine years; several other nephews and nieces.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Our Chapel of Memories in Spanish Fork and Thursday prior to services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
