Son of Walter Croxton, Sr. and Margaret Griffin. Walter Sr. was born in England and died of Mountain Fever on trail to Oregon in Big Sandy, WY in September, 1852. Margaret was also born in England. Burial: Kanesville (present-day Council Bluffs), Iowa. Died of cholera on trail to Oregon in May, 1852.

Elijah Croxton, according to his naturalization papers, dated March 30, 1852, was born on July 18, 1822 in Staffordshire, England; emigrated from Liverpool on March 8, 1844, arriving in New Orleans in April; and arrived in Illinois on March 13, 1846. Mr. Croxton with his family, arrived at his father-in-law's, Mr. Joel Gillenwater, a few days since from Oregon: - he came by water. Mr. Croxton left this place several years since for the Pacific Coast, among the first emigrants. About a year since his house was attacked by the Indians and entirely consumed with all his effects, himself and family barely escaping with their lives.
