Mrs. Esther Kratzer died at her home in Salem township, two miles southwest of Lamartine, on June 13, 1904, aged 81 years and 3 months. Her maiden name was Best. She was born in Beaver township and was married on Aug. 6, 1846 to Elias Kratzer who died on March 2, 1898. To them were born ten children, the following are still living: Francis, of Monroe; Rueben of Franklin; Oliver, of Findlay, O; Edward, near Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Samuel French, Turkey City; Mrs. Sarah Hawkins, Hartford, O.; Mrs. Chas. Shirey, Mariasville. There are 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her brothers are Daniel Best, Turnip Hole; Jeremiah and David Best, Blair's Corners; Simon Best, West Freedom, and Edward Best of Smyrna, Delaware. Mother Kratzer was all her life a member of Salem Lutheran Church, of Lamartine. She was confirmed in a class of 38 on May 22, 1841, by Rev. Geo. F. Ehrenfeld. The funeral services were held on Thursday last. The pastor, Rev. S.E. Smith, preached from Rev. 14:13
