Mrs. Rose Callahan, "Werner Girl" Dies
Mrs. Rose Ann Callahan, one of the last of a once large group known as "the Werner girls" Died at her home, 82 Hall St., Sunday night. She was 84 and a member of the unofficial organization by virtue of having worked for the old Werner Printing Co, here. That was around the turn of the century when the firm at Perkins and Union Sts was the city's largest single employer. The Werner firm was dissolved years ago. The unofficial "alumnae" organization of its former employees held reunions and periodic fetes. Mrs. Callahan, whose husband, Thomas "Ben" Callahan, died last June, also was former employee of the Akron Daily Beacon before it became the present-day Beacon Journal.
Akron born, she lived in this city all her life. She and her husband marked their 50th wedding anniversary in 1955. Mrs. Callahan was a long-time member of St Vincent Church, a former member of the Church of the Annunciation and a charter member of the 50 Year Club.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Mary McNellis; a son, Edward L Callahan, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Battles and Mrs. Julia Glennen, all of Akron, and six grandchildren.
