He was a prominent resident of Island. Although born in Ohio County, he had resided in Island most of his life. He was a member of the Island Methodist Church, president of the Island Deposit Bank and a partner in the Kirtley Lumber Company. He was also a 50-year member of the Island Lodge No. 743 F. & A.M., Allen-McLean Chapter No. 156 R.A.M., Owensboro Commander No. 15, Rizpah Shrine Temple, Madisonville and the Island Chapter No. 52 O.E.S.
