James E. Arvin, Sr.

76, of Evansville, died on Sunday, August 27, 2006, at St. MaryÂ's Medical Center. Born January 25, 1930, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, he was the son of Joseph Arvin and Ibyl Foster Arvin Wynn. He retired in 1991 after 21 years of service with Whirlpool. James had previously worked as a truck driver and yardman for the former Concrete Supply Evansville Concrete Company and later for Gustafson Concrete. He also had worked as a psychiatric aide employed at the Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville before moving to Evansville and then at the Evansville State Hospital. James had also worked as a self-employed roofing and general contractor. He was of the Christian faith. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bessie Cole Arvin, of Evansville; one daughter, Linda Bland of Newburgh; three sons, James E. Arvin, Jr. and Gilbert L. Arvin, both of Evansville and Gary M. Arvin, of Bloomington, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Tricia, Sean, Jamie, Stephen, Robert, Katie, and Jason; and five great-grandchildren, Ty, Chance, Joy, Jade, and Aslan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Arvin and Carl Arvin; one step brother and one step sister. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 South Hebron Avenue with Reverend Russ Abel officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 29, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and continued on Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Greater Midwest Affiliate, Memorials & Tributes Program, Department 77-3968, Chicago, Illinois 60678-3968 or to the Evansville State Hospital, Patient Funds Account.
